The Evian U18 - A window on the future

After the Haribo Kids Cup for the under 12s and the Evian Juniors Cup that brings together the world’s leading under-14 amateurs, it's time for the Evian U18 for the under 18s, which rounds off one month devoted to the new generation on the Major championship course at the Evian Resort Golf Club.

Within the Evian Championship Galaxy, which is totally devoted to bringing to the fore and providing support to the champions of tomorrow, this event is a crucial stage in the future of these young talents, providing an incredible opportunity to gain access to the US universities.

Since 2017, the Evian U18, the main feature of the partnership between the AJGA and the Evian Championship offers France's elite under-18 amateurs an amazing springboard. In all, 63 players, 45 boys and 18 girls, will tee off at this event held from 18 to 20 October on the course at the Evian Resort Golf Club. With regards to the selection process, the top 35 male players and top 15 female players in the under 18 category on the French Amateur Order of Merit automatically enter the field, which is completed through wildcards granted by the tournament’s selection committee. The committee is delighted to see how much the quality of play and quality of the field for this 3rd edition has improved.

All of the competitors realise what is at stake at this event that can open the doors to the US universities for them. The partnership signed between Evian and the AJGA strengthens The Evian Championship’s youth policy. In keeping with this, Evian takes its commitment even further with its involvement in the evian® International & Senior Showcase, which enables the world's elite to take part in a 2-day event in front of the leading US college coaches.

After 3 rounds in stroke play without a cut, 8 players will head to Las Vegas to compete in the evian® International & Senior Showcase on 7 & 8 December 2019.  This selection will comprise the top 2 male and top 2 female golfers in the Evian U18 along with 4 boys awarded a wildcard by the selection committee based on their individual motivations, sporting and academic results and how far advanced their project to join a US university is.

A few favorites as the Evian U18 begins on Friday? Worthy of a mention are Clément Poletti and Maxence Mugnier, respectively 26th and 52nd on the Amateur Order of Merit, Adéla Cernousek, ranked 12th, who had a Top 2 finish at last year’s event, and Inès Archer, ranked 25th, who will play for the 3rd time this year on the Evian course, after her participation in the Jabra Ladies Open and Evian Juniors Cup with Team France. This young golfer could well follow in the footsteps of Pauline Roussin-Bouchard, the perfect ambassador for the Evian Championship Galaxy, who after competing in 3 events - the Haribo Kids Cup, the Evian Juniors Cup and the Evian U18 - finished runner-up at the Jabra Ladies Open/Evian Championship European Qualifiers, or Lucie Malchirand (Evian Juniors Cup 2016 and 2017), who was selected for Las Vegas at the Evian U18 2018 and was a member of the European Junior Solheim Cup team last month. Striking examples of how the sporting pathways created by The Evian Championship for young players can put them on the road to becoming world class players.
